Discover food freedom.

Eating shouldn’t feel like following rules & regulations.

Hi, I’m Sammi!

I’m a Registered Dietitian who helps people untangle their relationship with food and discover a life free of diet culture, because who doesn’t want to eat their favorite foods without feeling guilty?!

Eating doesn’t have to be stressful and filled with rules, it can be enjoyable and a time you take for yourself and enjoy time with others. Trust me I understand how scary or unrealistic this journey may seem!  I never thought I could go from religiously weighing and tracking my food to spontaneously going out to dinner with my friends and not analyzing the menu ahead of time.

When COVID hit I realized…

how out of control my eating felt. Even though I thought I had “ditched the food rules”, I still was letting my inner food police rule my food choices.

I went from declining social events because I was nervous about being able to track what I ate to baking my favorite recipes on a whim without worrying about calculating every calorie. Now I’m here to guide you through your journey to food freedom so you can live a life beyond diet culture!

Who do I work with?

I work with people who struggle with eating disorders, disordered eating habits, or chronic dieting.

I use the Intuitive Eating and Health at Every Size frameworks to guide my work with my clients. I have found identifying key components of your current relationship with food helps me meet you where you are. Everyone is different so I find having a better understanding of where you are is much more important when where I think we should start

Diets fail 95% of the time.

So why are we still blaming it on the people using them instead of questioning diet culture about whether they were purposefully designed to fail and keep you roped into their business?!

 FAQs

  • Intuitive Eating is a framework developed by two dietitians: Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. This framework encompasses the dynamic mind-body integration of instinct, emotion, and rational thought. It enables you to honor your health by paying attention to the messages of your body and meeting your physical and emotional needs. Intuitive Eating works in two key ways: helping you regain the ability to heal and respond to the physical sensations that arise within your body and removing obstacles to be able to honor what your body needs.

  • The HAES Principles and framework are a continuously evolving alternative to the weight-centered approach to treating clients of all sizes. These principles promote health equity, support ending weight discrimination, and improve access to quality healthcare regardless of an individual’s body size. There are 5 HAES principles: weight inclusivity, health enhancement, eating for well-being, respectful care, and life-enhancing movement.

  • I use these frameworks and principles within my practice because they focus on improving quality of life instead of restriction around food. There is also extensive research that shows that these frameworks lead to decreased rates of eating disorders, and disordered eating behaviors, as well as increased positive health outcomes.

  • Yes! I do accept clients under the age of 18, if a parent or caregiver will be part of the process. Initial sessions are with the adolescent and I and the last 30 mintues are for the caregiver and I to touch base. The follow up appointments follow a similar structure (45 minutes for the adolescent and 15 minutes for the caregiver).

I can additionally accept clients from Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Virginia because these states do not require dietitians to hold licensure to provide nutrition counseling in their state.
